The Collection

The Foundation's permanent Collection had its beginnings as part of a private collection of Australian contemporary art built over 25 years by the Foundation's founding patrons, Corbett Lyon and Yueji Lyon.

To provide a permanent future home for works in their collection, the Lyons established the Lyon Foundation as a new public museum entity in 2012.

Following the Foundation's establishment, key works from the Lyons' private Collection were gifted to the public Foundation, to ensure that they can be enjoyed in perpetuity by members of the public.

As at 2015, more than 30 works from the Lyon family's private collection have been gifted to the public Foundation.

A number of works in the Foundation's permanent Collection have also been gifted by artists who are already represented in the Collection. These include works donated by artists Emily Floyd and Callum Morton.

Further works have been acquired directly by the Foundation through its Acquisitions Committee.
